Cup of News

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026

Cup of News is a news reader that publishes two digests a day. This page explains what the app and the website at read.cupof.news collect, why, who receives it, and how to delete it. It is written to match what the software actually does.

Cookies and device storage

Two cookies are used, both only for sign-in: cofn_session (your session) and cofn_logged_in (a flag). Your theme, language and guest choice are stored on your device. No advertising or analytics cookies are used.

Shared story pages

When you use Share on a story, the link points to a public page on archives.cupof.news with that story's headline, image, our summary and links to its sources. These pages are the same for everyone, contain no account data, set no cookies and use no analytics. Search engines may index them. Sharing a link does not reveal who shared it.

Who receives data

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We may disclose data if the law requires it.

Payments

The app does not process payments and collects no payment details.

How long we keep data

Account data is kept until you delete your account. Sign-in codes expire after 15 minutes. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and are not linked to your account. Contact-form messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your request.

Deleting your account

In the app: Account, then Delete account. Confirm, and the deletion happens immediately.

On the web: follow the steps at read.cupof.news/delete-account.

Deleted: your account and email, your preferences, your sessions, your personal digests, the sources you submitted, any sign-in codes held for your email and any waiting-list entry. Kept: public digests, which contain no personal data, and messages you sent through the contact form, which are not linked to an account. You can ask us to remove those too.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to or restrict how it is used. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may also complain to your data protection authority. We process account data to provide the service you asked for (contract) and server logs for security (legitimate interests). Write to us at the address below and we will answer within 30 days.

Children

Cup of News is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a meaningful way we will update the date above and, for account holders, say so in the app.
